Mrs. Anne Mollie Wheeler Barnes, 90, Collins, MS passed away on January 30, 2023.
Mrs. Barnes was educated in the Hopewell Community, Collins, MS and received her formal education at Hopewell High School; she was a lifelong member of Old Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She fulfilled her life purpose as a caregiver to the children in the Hopewell Community. Miss Mollie, as she was lovingly called, was a huge influence on the lives of the children she nurtured who went on to have careers in education and healthcare. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking for family and c church occasions.
She was a prayer warrior for the community and always called on church members in need of prayer and a heartfelt song. Her favorite song was " When the Gates Swing Open". She always shared a parting gift to guests who visited her home. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, along with traveling, especially to family reunions. Always cherishing her family, Mollie was affectionately called "Tee Mollie" by her nieces and nephews. She loved celebrating her birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvatus and Gladys Wheeler; grandmother, Mollie Wiley, son, Terrance Wheeler; three sisters, Etta Batiste, Dorothy Dinkins, and Ramona McCann; three brothers, Eugene Wheeler, George Wheeler, and Wade Wheeler; sister in law, Loretta Wheeler and brother in law, Allen McCann.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Willie Ray Barnes; son, Myron (Melissa) Bullock, Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Michael and Ashanti Bullock, Hattiesburg; sisters, Vinetta Wheeler, Collins, Girtha(Johnny) Myers, Milwaukee, WI, Lanie (Jessie) Green, Horn Lake, MS Annie(Hinton) Clayton-Owens, Laurel, MS, Rose (Vernon) Crosby, Oakland, CA and Mary (Homer) Curley, Indianapolis IN. Brothers, Carless (Christine) Wheeler, Desoto, TX and Charles (Annette) Wheeler, Sandusky, OH; sisters in law, Emma Irby, Indianapolis, IN, Irma Wheeler, New Orleans, LA and Geraldine Wheeler, Hattiesburg. Brother in law, William Dinkins, Lawrenceville, GA; caregiver and friend, Laura Lewis; nurse, Sherry Barnes; friends at the Covington County Bank and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
