Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hawthorne Jones, 72, Collins, MS, passed away at her residence on Friday, May 26, 2023.
Mrs. Jones was a 1969 graduate of Carver Central High School, Collins, MS. She had a career in the Food Service Industry with her last positions being with the Veterans Affairs Clinic, Collins. She was an exceptional homemaker, mother, grand grandmother, raising eight children and assisting with the babysitting duties of grandchildren and even great-grands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Herman Powell, Jr and Louise Hawthorne Martin and step-father, Mack Martin, Winnsboro, LA; her maternal grandparents, Hubert Sr. and Bertha Hawthorne; son, Darren Torrien Jones, special aunt, Ruby Hawthorne and special friend, Nancy Owens and a host of aunts and cousins in the Hawthorne family.
Survivors include her children, Randa ( Je'Tuan) Stephens, Laurel, MS, Kimberly Jones, Carlos Jones, Reginal Jones, Corey (Tiffany) Jones, and Fredrick Breon ( Lakiesha) Jones of Collins. Dedrick Jones, Davenport, Iowa and Godson, Chrys Klighammer Davenport, IW. Aunts, Luethel Barnes, Collins and Mae Francis(Lonnie) Young, St. Louis, MP. 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren. Sisters, Jackie Sanders and Delores Murrell, Jackson, MS. Brother, James Herman Powell, New Jersey; 2 step sisters, Barbara (Willie) Thomas and Betty Author, Winnsboro, LA. 2 step-brothers, Mack and Robert Martin, LA. Special cousin Donnis(Gwen) Hawthorne, Collins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and community friends. Special friend/sister, Lela Mae Hubbard and so many others who will miss her dearly.
