Mrs. Johnnie Mae Mayfield Barnes, 81 of Collins, MS passed away on December 20, 2023.
Mrs. Barnes was a long-time member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, served as an usher, and participated in the church choir. She was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Senior Mission, and a member of the Kitchen Ministry. She loved her family, church, and community.
She was employed with the Covington County School District as a cook for 36 years at Collins Middle School and Mt. Olive Attendance Center. She catered banquets and other special events for various organizations in the local area. Feeding people and cooking was her passion.
As her footprints are retraced, she touched many lives and enriched lives along life's journey. She enjoyed many of God's blessings as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Mayfield and Aruzona Crosby Mayfield; her husband Dan Barnes; son, Mitchell Barnes.
Survivors include her children, Rosie Lynnette Barnes and Merlean Barnes, both of Collins. Brother, Tommy James Mayfield (Sandra), Anaheim, CA; sisters, Brenda Charles (L. D.) and Pinkie Lee Flowers (Matthew), all of Collins, Grandchildren, Elexis Jones (Corey), Marketta McCoy (Buster), all of Collins, Reena Hilton, Laurel, MS, Santana Hilton, Stringer, MS, Kodie Hilton, Collins and Johnnie B Hilton, Taylorsville, MS. 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
