Mr. Willie Ray "Mudcat" Barnes, 92, Collins, MS (Shady Oak Community) passed away on March 22, 2023 at Covington County Hospital, Collins, MS.
He was a faithful lifelong member of Shady Oak Missionary Baptist Church where he assisted with Sunday devotion and took great pleasure in singing his favorite song "Come On In The Room." In spite of his trials and tribulations, he remained faithful to God and would often say, "God has been good to me."
He was loved by many, especially his community "The Wheel Town Community '' and was known as "Mudcat". He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, chatting with friends and working in his garden. He always shared with the community and enjoyed going to family reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Barnes and Alice Sulliven Barnes; his wife, Anne Mollie Wheeler Barnes; grandparents, Sherm and Mattie Barnes; sister, Mattie Lou Butler; brothers, Sherman and Edward Barnes; son, Terrance Wheeler; sister in-laws, Mae Francis Barnes, Etta Batiste, Dorothy Dinkins, and Ramona McCann; brother in laws, L. C, Butler, Allen McCann, Eugene, George and Wade Wheeler.
Survivors include, his son, Myron(Melissa) Bullock, Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Michael and Ashanti Bullock, Hattiesburg; sister in laws and beloved personal driver, Vinetta Wheeler, Collins; Lannie(Jessie) Green, Horn Lake, MS, Annie (Hinto) Clayton-Owens, Laurel, MS, Mary ( Homer) Curry, Indianapolis, IN, Girtha ( Johnny) Myers, Milwaukee, WI, Rose (Vernon) Crosby, Oakland, CA, Emma Irby, Indianapolis, IN, Irma Wheeler, New Orleans,LA, and Geraldine Wheeler, Hattiesburg.Brother in laws, Carless(Christine) Wheeler, Desoto, TX and Charles (Annette) Wheeler, Sandusky, OH and Willliam Dinkins, Lawrenceville, GA; special neighbors, John L. Wheeler and Wilma Moore; special friends, G. W.
